Selecting and Identifying Afghan Hounds
1. Height and Weight Requirements:
- The desired shoulder height is within 61-74 centimeters.
- Weight should range from 23 kilograms to 35 kilograms.
2. Head Type:
- The head should be long and narrow, with a straight and narrow appearance, often held high.
- The skull should be slightly convex, and the nose color should be brown or black.
3. Muzzle and Neck:
- The muzzle should be relatively long.
- The neck should be strong and powerful.
- Teeth should be strong and exhibit a scissor bite.
4. Ears and Eyes:
- Ears should be long and hanging.
- Hair on the top of the head should be long, covering the ears and flowing over the shoulders.
- Eyes should be dark in color and lively.
5. Body Structure:
- The overall body should be well-proportioned.
- The neck should be consistently extended and powerful.
- Chest should be deep, and the abdomen slightly tucked upward.
6. Limbs and Feet:
- Limbs should be long and robust.
- Front legs should be straight.
- Hind legs should have well-developed muscles.
- Feet should be large and broad, with long feathering on the toes.
7. Coat:
- The coat should be abundant, dense, soft, and silky, shining like silk.
- Long hair on the sides of the head.
- Long, dense hair on the sides of the body, as well as on the front and hind limbs.
- Ears, tail, and top of the head should have long, shiny hair.
- Hair on the back and shoulders is shorter.
8. Walking Gait:
- The gait should be easy and agile.
- The Afghan Hound should move swiftly, and sluggish movement indicates potential health issues.
