How to Choose a Purebred Corgi
Welsh Corgis are a small breed of dogs with a cute and endearing appearance. They have a distinctive low stature and a charming wiggly walk that makes them incredibly adorable. When you see such an adorable Corgi, it’s natural to want to have one as a pet! So, how do you go about choosing a purebred Corgi? Here are some tips to share with everyone!
- Examine the Corgi’s Head: The Corgi’s head resembles that of a small fox. The skull is relatively wide, the forehead and nose are moderate, and the ears stand erect with rounded tips. When viewed from the back, the two ear tips and the nose form an inverted triangle. The eyes of a purebred Corgi are deep brown.
- Check the Corgi’s Coat: Corgis generally come in three main coat colors. The back should be primarily light yellow or gray-black. If there are various colors on the back, it may not be a purebred. Some dark gray fur in newborn puppies is normal. The Corgi’s coat should be smooth and wavy, with a good amount of fur. Pulling a handful of fur and releasing it should result in a quick return to its normal state for a purebred Corgi.
- Examine the Corgi’s Pedigree: When purchasing a Corgi, it’s advisable to check the parents or ask the seller for relevant pedigree certificates. If both parents are purebred Corgis, then the puppy is undoubtedly purebred.
- Evaluate the Corgi’s Body Structure: The Corgi has a low stature with an elegant outline. The head and neck form a slight arch, and the back is level and firm. The chest is deep and wide, with well-extended ribcage of moderate length. The elbows should have a slight bend, and the gait should be stable.
- Check the Corgi’s Bone Structure: To ensure the Corgi is purebred, examine its bone structure. A thicker front paw and heavier bone structure indicate a higher degree of purity. A Corgi with robust bone structure will grow into a healthier and more robust adult.
