Habits of Chihuahuas

Chihuahuas, the smallest among small dog breeds, exhibit traits such as tenacity, elegance, alertness, and affection. They are not fond of other dogs of the same breed and share characteristics similar to terriers. Despite their energetic nature, Chihuahuas have a strong will but are sensitive to cold, making them unsuitable for outdoor kennels. They require additional clothing for warmth when going outdoors during winter. With swift movements and a symmetrical and petite physique, Chihuahuas are widely beloved.

Chihuahuas come in both long-haired and short-haired varieties. Despite their small size, they are not timid around other dogs and display remarkable courage, capable of self-defense even in the presence of larger dogs. They are known for their strong attachment to their owners.

Chihuahuas do not require a significant amount of daily exercise, making them well-suited for apartment living. They can comfortably stay indoors every day, and their owners don’t need to spend much time taking them out to play. However, they are not suitable for outdoor living due to their sensitivity to both hot and cold environments. Owners are advised to take them out for walks in good weather, allowing them to enjoy some sunlight.

Chihuahuas have a natural aversion to cold weather and are prone to pneumonia and rheumatoid arthritis in chilly conditions, so it’s crucial for owners to provide adequate warmth during the winter.

When it comes to issues of indoor elimination, it’s essential to determine whether the Chihuahua has received proper toilet training. If not, the owner needs to initiate training. In cases where a dog with established elimination habits starts relieving itself in the same area, owners should restrict the dog from that location and reinforce toilet training habits.
