Head (Head, Face, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Mouth, Muzzle, Stop, Teeth):

  • Head: Well-proportioned, straight-lined, and slightly longer than 2/5 of the withers height. Should not be too heavy or too fine, with clearly defined angles under the skin.
  • Skull: Clearly shaped, with a width less than half the length of the head. Viewed from above, the skull is elliptical, slightly raised in contour. The forehead has wrinkles, wide between the eyes, gradually narrowing towards the occiput.
  • Stop: Barely noticeable.
  • Nose: Well-developed, vertical to the skull, with open nostrils. Color: black for black, white, and gray Poodles; brown for brown Poodles; within the dark brown range for apricot Poodles.
  • Muzzle: Straight-lined upper contour, approximately 9/10 the length of the skull. Lower jaws extend almost parallel, with the lower edge outlined by the lower jaw.
  • Lips: Slightly developed, fairly tight, medium thickness, with the upper lip just covering the lower lip.
  • Jaws/Teeth: Normal position, strong teeth. Missing first or second premolar in the upper jaw, or second or third premolar in the lower jaw will not be penalized.

Body (Neck, Chest, Ribs, Loins and Back, Forequarters, Skin):

  • Neck: Sturdy, slightly arched, of medium length, and sufficiently high to allow the head to be carried proudly. Oval at the intersection, shorter than the length of the head.
  • Body: Well-proportioned, with a length greater than the withers height.
  • Shoulders: Moderately developed.
  • Back: Short, harmonious, neither arched nor sagging. Height from the ground to the withers approximately equal to the height from the ground to the buttocks.
  • Loins: Solid and muscular.
  • Hindquarters: Round but not sloping.
  • Chest: Descends to the elbow, width approximately 2/3 of the depth (from spine to sternum). The circumference, measured from below the shoulders, should be at least 10 cm more than the withers height.
  • Ribs: Oval-shaped, wide at the spine.
  • Forechest: Normal size; the tip of the sternum must be slightly prominent, positioned rather high for easy lifting of the head.
  • Abdomen: Folded but not excessively.

Limbs (Forequarters, Shoulders, Upper Arms, Elbows, Forearms, Feet, Hindquarters, Thighs, Hocks, Joints, and Pasterns):

  • Forequarters: Very straight, parallel, elegant, well-muscled, with good bone structure. The height from the elbow to the ground is 5/9 of the height from the withers to the ground.
  • Shoulders: Sloping, well-muscled, forming a 90° to 110° angle with the upper arm.
  • Upper Arms: Corresponding in length to the shoulder blade.
  • Elbows: Strong, but not massive.
  • Feet: Small, thick, egg-shaped, with well-arched toes and strong, compact pads.
  • Hindquarters: Viewed from behind, straight, parallel, well-muscled, with visible hock joints.
  • Thighs: Well-muscled and strong.
  • Hocks: Vertical. No dewclaws on the hind legs at birth.

Tail:

  • Tail: Set high at the level of the loin. Docked at 1/3 or half the natural length for curly-coated Poodles. Long and carried upright tails are not disqualified. Velvet-coated Poodles may retain the full tail length. When moving, the tail should slope upward.

Gait/Movement:

  • Gait: Light, easy, and quick, without flow or stretch.

Disqualifications:

  • Defects: Any deviation from the above points is considered a defect. Obvious abnormalities in body or behavior result in disqualification.
  • Nose: Too small, not clearly visible, or too large.
  • Muzzle: Too thin or too pointed, convex nose bridge.
  • Jaws/Teeth: Misaligned or missing teeth to a degree that affects proportion.
  • Eyes: Too large or too small, insufficiently dark or with red markings.
  • Ears: Too short, too narrow, or folded.
  • Hindquarters: Sloping croup.
  • Tail: Curled over the back, too thin, or too low.
  • Legs: Too long.
  • Hind Legs: Too straight.
  • Movement: Paddling or crabbing.
  • Color: Inappropriate overall color or depigmented eyelids (spectacle eye).
  • Coat: Thin or soft.
  • Temperament: Aggressive or overly excited.
