Height:
- Male Pugs: 11.8-14.2 inches (30.0-36.0 cm) at the shoulder
- Female Pugs: 9.8-11.8 inches (25.0-30.0 cm) at the shoulder
Weight Range:
- Male Pugs: 13.2-19.8 pounds (6.0-9.0 kg)
- Female Pugs: 13.2-17.6 pounds (6.0-8.0 kg)
Head (Skull, Face, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Muzzle, Lips, Cheeks, Teeth):
- Skull: Large, round, not apple-shaped, with distinct wrinkles
- Muzzle: Short, blunt, square, not turned up
- Jaw/Teeth: Slightly undershot; twisted mouth, teeth, or tongue are disqualifications
- Eyes: Black, very large, round, with a gentle, eager expression
- Ears: Small, thin, velvety, folded either as rose ears or button ears
Body (Neck, Chest, Ribs, Back, Forepart, Skin):
- Neck: Slightly arched, strong, of sufficient length to hold the head high
- Body: Short, resembling a compact, sturdy pony
- Back: Level, not arched or sagging
- Chest: Broad, well-expanded
Limbs (Forequarters, Shoulders, Upper Arm, Elbows, Forearm, Feet, Hindquarters, Thighs, Stifles, Hocks, Joints, Hind Feet and Toenails):
- Forequarters: Strong, straight, of moderate length
- Shoulders: Naturally sloping
- Hindquarters: Strong, of moderate length, straight and parallel when viewed from behind
- Feet: Neither hare-like nor cat-like, toes well separated, black toenails
Tail:
- High set, tightly curled over the back, preferably with two curls
Gait/Movement:
- Front and rear movement should be natural with legs lifting and falling freely
- Strong front legs, powerful driving hind legs, knees naturally bent
- Slight rolling motion in the hindquarters is typical
Disqualifications:
- Any deviation from the above points is considered a defect
- Any obvious abnormalities in body or behavior result in disqualification.
