Characteristics and Habits of Afghan Hound

Character Traits:
The Afghan Hound possesses an elegant and majestic appearance, forming a unique style with its beautiful posture. It exhibits strong endurance, astonishing agility, and robust physique in challenging environments. Despite its physical strength, it may experience weight loss in the face of lifestyle changes. The breed is known for its independence, gentleness towards humans, but occasionally, it may display a nervous side. Through breeding improvements, the Afghan Hound has become more compliant and easier to train and care for while retaining its lively nature. This elegant and lively breed thrives with appropriate exercise to maintain optimal physical and mental health. Afghans prefer comfortable, modern homes and can adapt to apartment living, provided they have ample space for exercise and are groomed regularly, requiring professional grooming two to three times a year.

Living Habits:
In daily life, Afghan Hounds have a tendency to mark their “territory” using their urine, resulting in occasional inappropriate urination within the household. They feel confident within their established territory but may become timid and anxious in unfamiliar or heavily scented areas by other cats or dogs. Afghan Hounds also exhibit a mating behavior, with healthy adults going into heat twice a day during the mating seasons of spring and autumn. During heat, their temperament becomes restless, they may bark more, urinate inappropriately, and sneak outdoors to find mates. Mating behavior is a normal part of the Afghan Hound’s life during the peak of the mating season.
