Alaskan Malamute: Personality Traits and Lifestyle Habits
Personality Traits:
The Alaskan Malamute is known for its loyalty and strength, making it an excellent guard and working dog. It is also an affectionate family companion with a love for outdoor activities. Often referred to as a “friend dog” rather than a solitary one, the Malamute exudes nobility and maturity. Compared to other breeds, it tends to have lower discipline and a more carefree nature.

Life Expectancy:
The lifespan of an Alaskan Malamute is not exceptionally long, ranging from around 11 to 12 years. The duration of its life is closely tied to its quality of life and living environment.
Estrus Phases:
- Pre-Estrus: Increased appetite, enhanced coat luster, increased sniffing during walks, and a preference for play with male dogs. Visible signs include swelling and the onset of bloodstains.
- Estrus: Lasting 5-20 days, on average 10 days, characterized by noticeable acceptance of mounting by male dogs. Swelling of the labia and reduced vaginal discharge are observed.
- Post-Estrus: Lasting 30-90 days, averaging 60 days, during which the female no longer accepts mating. If not pregnant, this phase occurs. If pregnant, it transitions to the pregnancy and lactation period.
- Anestrus: A resting period after weaning, typically 90-140 days, averaging 130 days, characterized by normal behavior and appearance.
