Advantages and Disadvantages of Pugs, and Feeding Guidelines

Advantages:
Pugs are lively and playful, particularly enjoying interactions with children. Their good-natured and outgoing personality makes them a beloved choice. However, any deviation from the specified standards is considered a defect, and the severity of these defects correlates strictly with their impact on the dog’s health and well-being. Dogs displaying obvious physical or behavioral abnormalities are disqualified.

Feeding Guidelines for Pugs:
Given the distinctive facial features and body of Pugs, daily care involves more than just grooming. It is recommended to check and care for their eyes, nose, and facial skin daily. Initiating a routine check-up early is beneficial—detecting diseases early allows for prompt treatment and serves as foundational training for Pugs. Daily check-ups should not exceed 10 minutes to prevent impatience, especially in puppies.

Skin Care:

  • After each bath, use a soft brush to groom the coat and a hairdryer to ensure thorough drying.
  • In seasons with low atmospheric pressure and high humidity, their wrinkled skin is prone to inflammation and fungal growth. Provide a well-ventilated and dry environment.
  • Regularly wipe their body with a damp cloth during hot afternoons in summer.

Nasal Care:

  • Pugs’ short and flat noses make them susceptible to absorbing moisture, leading to bacterial growth and inflammation. Apply dry boric acid powder to keep their noses dry.

Summer Care:

  • Pugs are heat-sensitive. Avoid outdoor activities, especially during hot afternoons. Keep them in shaded areas and provide ample water.
  • Be cautious about heatstroke prevention. Use a damp cloth and lemon juice on their nose if needed.

Exercise Caution for Puppies:

  • Puppies under 18 months should avoid excessive exercise and vertical movements. Protect their developing bones.

Eye Care:

  • Clean their eyes with diluted boric acid water regularly, approximately twice a week.

Pugs, with their endearing and gentle nature, require meticulous care, especially considering their inherent physical challenges.
